The Czech republic was created on January 1st, 1993, when former Czechoslowakia split into two countries, Czechia and Slovakia. It is a small mountainous, country in Central Europe. First settlements in the area date back to the 5th century B.C. with a Czech nation first developing in the 10th century A.D. Prague, the capital of the Czech republic, developed in the 14th century into the cultural and political centre of Czechia. Nowadays Prague is a beautiful city which attracts a large number of visitors each year. The south of the Czech republic is a landscape of hills, forests and lakes. Here there are several beaufitul cities and castles, well worth visiting, many of them UNESCO world heritage sites.
