El-Alamein

El Alamein is a town on Egypt's Mediterranean Sea coast, 106km west of Alexandria and 240km northwest of Cairo. There a beautiful white sand beaches with pristine sea waters around El Alamein, and for this reason the coast around it is heavily developed. The city also draws a number of visitors because it was the site of a major confrontation between the German and Italian armies and the British armies during World War II. There are British, German and Italian memorials for the fallen soldiers near El Alamein.
