Huangshan is a mountain range in China's Anhui province, located about 200km west of Hangzhou. Its main characteristic is its very scenic granite rock formations on which pine trees grow. Due to its picturesque scenery, Huangshan has been a frequent subject of ancient Chinese paintings. The peaks in Haungshan reach an altitude between 1000m and 1864m. The mountain range was formed 100 million years ago and owes its shape to the effect of glaciers during the quaternary period. Huangshan has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since the year 1990.
