The Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, is a masterpiece of Timurid architecture and the final resting place of the great conqueror Amir Timur (Tamerlane). Built in the early 15th century, this majestic complex features a stunning turquoise dome, intricate geometric tilework, and a richly decorated interior with gold inscriptions and onyx details. Originally intended for Timur’s grandson, Muhammad Sultan, it later became the dynastic tomb of the Timurids, housing the graves of Timur, his sons, and his spiritual advisor, Mir Sayyid Baraka. The mausoleum’s design influenced later Mughal architecture, including India’s Taj Mahal.
