The Burj al-Arab is a luxury hotel in Dubai (being marketed as "seven stars"), at 305m the tallest hotel in the world. It has the shape of a dhow, a type of Arabian vessel and is built on an artificial island, 280m from Jumeirah beach. Construction of the hotel began in 1994 and it was inaugurated on December 1, 1999. The total construction cost has been estimated at US $1.5 billion. The Burj al-Arab hotel does not have ordinary rooms. It has 202 duplex suites with areas varying between 169 m² and 780 m². It is one of the most expensive hotels in the world to stay in with prices ranging between US $1000 and $28000 per night.
