Building E was one of the first prehistoric monuments excavated at Göbekli Tepe. This oval structure, which was cut into the bedrock, was discovered together with the two large pits immediately to its north. Until the discovery of buildings C and D in the main excavation area it was not realised that this structure was also a monumental building. In the case of building E the T-shaped pillars and stone walls are missing, leaving just the smoothed limestone floor and the two carved pedestals that originally held two central T-shaped pillars of the building.
