Prakhon Chai is a small city with 18000 inhabitants in northeastern Thailand. The main attraction is Wat Prasat Phnom Rung, one of the most important Khmer buildings in Thailand. The ruins are erected on a hill 158m above the sea level. The temple was erected in the 12th century during the reign of the Khmer king Suryavarman II.
