Wat Po is a major temple in Bangkok known to the Thais as Wat Phra Chetupon, dating from long before Bangkok was founded, as it was built in the 16th century. It became a favourite with the early Chakri kings who turned it into the country's largest monastery. Wat Po's major attraction is the massive Reclining Buddha, 46 meters long, whose feet are decorated with exquisite mother-of-pearl inlay. Besides being a temple and tourist attraction, Wat Po is also an education and Thai massage centre.
