Tourists get up early in the morning, to catch the 4:50am train in the Alishan mountain station, whcih will bring them to the Zhushan station before 6am, in order to watch the sunrise. On a good day, visitors can watch the sun rising over a sea of clouds. In practice however these good days are quite rare and often instead visitors are stuck at the viewpoint in the rain. It is possible to walk up and down from the Alishan station to the Zhushan station, along a paved road or a forest trail.
