The south-central part of Sri Lanka consists of mountains and highlands rising up to 2500m above sea level. It's a relatively fresh area which receives a lot of rainfall. Here there are many tea plantations, most at altitudes above 800m. Nuwara Eliya is a small colonial era city at an altitude of 1889m, set up by the British as a hill station. Tangalle is a city along the southern coast with some sandy beaches.
