Abha

Abha is the capital city of the Asir region in Saudi Arabia and is located in the southwestern part of the country. It is situated at an altitude of 2270m, which gives it a more moderate and pleasant climate compared to many other cities in Saudi Arabia.
The city of Abha has a long history, dating back to ancient times. It was a prominent settlement in the Asir region even before the formation of the modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Abha qualifies as a tourist destination mainly because of its cooler climate and the nearby Al Soudah mountains, but in the city itself there is not too much too see. There is the Shamsan Ottoman fort on a hilltop overlooking Abha and the Al Basta district with several traditional houses with characteristic fins on the walls.
