The historic core or Bucharest (or let's say what is left of it) extends from Unirii square to the north east and west of Calea Victoriei, a long street running from north to south across Bucharest. Here there are several interesting buildings and churches, most dating back to the 19th century (neoclassical architecture) and the baroque period. Some government buildings are also on this street.
