Sohar

Sohar (also known as Suhar or صُحار‎‎ in Arabic) is an important city in northern Oman. It is located along the coast, 200 km northwest of Muscat. While Sohat is developing as an important industrial centre, it has a beautiful, long sandy beach. In the historic centre of Sohar there is a well-preserved 14th century fort with white walls. The current structure dates back to the Portuguese period and contains a museum. A thousand years ago Sohar was the largest city of Oman and was referred to as Omana.
