The Viking ship museum (Vikingskipshuset in Norwegian) is a museum located in the Bygdøy area a few km west of Oslo. It was initially set up in 1926 and houses the Oseberg Viking ship and other Viking ships from Gokstad and Tune. The Oseberg Viking ship is in an excellent preservation status and was excavated from a burial mound at the Oseberg farm near Tønsberg. The ship dates back to the 9th century Viking period. It is 21.58m long and built out of oak.
