The centre of Bergen outside of the Bryggen area consists mostly of 19th century buildings in neoclassical style and a few older churches. There is a large pedestrian area around Torgallmenningen and a small park around the Lungegardsvannet pond. St John's church was built between 1891 and 1894 in gothic revival style.
