Ranau is a town located in the state of Sabah, Malaysia, on the island of Borneo.
It is situated about 108 kilometers east of the state capital, Kota Kinabalu. Ranau is known for its beautiful natural scenery, including lush green hills, forests, and mountains. Sosodikon hill is a natural viewpoint near the small town of Kundasang, at 1465m of altitude. It can be reached by car along a narrow dirt track from Kundasang. From the parking it's a short 400m walk to the viewing platform. Here there are nice views of Mt Kinabalu and the Kundasang valley.
The Sabah tea resort lies 20km east of Ranau in the middle of a tea plantation. Visitors can spend the night here in longhouses or just stop to visit the tea factory or wander through the tea gardens. There is a nice restaurant serving a choice of Malaysian and Western food, tea and cakes.
How to get to the Ranau area
The simplest way to reach the Ranau area is by car from Kota Kinabalu (a 2 1/2 hours drive). Alternatively, there are buses from Kota Kinabalu to Ranau.
