The Likas floating mosque, also known as Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu or Kota Kinabalu City Mosque, was officially opened on Feb. 18th, 2000 after Kota Kinabalu gained city status. The mosque extends over a man-made lagoon near Likas bay, giving the impression that it floats over water. The mosque can accomodate 10000 people and offers great views at sunset. The main prayer hall has a mihrab wall made of marble decorated with green and yellow patterns.
