Sabah has a large number of beaches and islands and in theory offers good opportunities for having a beach holiday. In practice many of these places are either quite high-end or are mainly focused on divers. The affordable beach sites are mostly located along the west coast of Sabah. The Tip of Sabah has for instance a beautiful beach and relatively inexpensive Accommodation. The beaches around Kuala Penyu in the south of Sabah are probably also interesting. Another budget option is Mantanani island, 80km northeast of Kota Kinabalu. The islands around Semporna, on the east coast of Sabah have beautiful beaches surrounded by pristine sea waters. Sipadan and other islands around Semporna have an impressive marine wildlife and attract a large number of divers. Some of these islands offer Accommodation, which however is quite expensive. Only Mabul offers budget level Accommodation.
