At the western end of Beirut there is the Beirut Corniche, a road running parallel to the coast with a promenade for pedestrians. Here there are skyscrapers and residential buildings facing the sea. The Raouche (or Pigeon) rocks are two giant rock formations in the sea opposite the coast, a famous landmark created by marine erosion and earthquakes. The coast here is steep with cliffs and small, rocky beaches. Sunset views are beautiful.
