Jurmala (Jūrmala in Latvian) is a beach resort city on the Baltic sea coast located about 25km west of Riga. This area is popular, because there is a 33km long stretch of white sand beach. Along the beach there are many beach houses and villas, hotels and restaurant. The city of Jurmala itself has 56000 inhabitants. Jūrmala began developing as a spa destination in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, when wealthy landowners began the tradition of relaxing at the seaside. The beach in Jurmala is beautiful.
