The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine which houses the Foundation Stone, a holy site in the Jewish and Islamic religions. It was completed in 691, making it the oldest extant Islamic building in the world. Its significance comes from the religious beliefs associated to the Foundation Stone. The dome has a golden cupola and perfectly proportionated walls. It is the focal centre of the old city of Jerusalem.
