With Central Greece we refer to the region between the northern Greek border, the greek region of Macedonia and Attica (where Athens is located). Central Greece includes Thessaly, Epirus and Sterea Ellada. It's mainly a mountainous area and includes the southern extension of the Balkanic mountain range. Located in central Greece are two UNESCO world heritage sites: the complex of eastern orthodox monasteries of Meteora and the ancient Greek site of Delphi.
