Wangerooge is a small East Frisian island with an area of just 8 kmē. It is the easternmost of the East Frisian islands and lies about 10km off the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony. It can be reached either by ferry from Harlesiel or by plane. A small narrow gauge railway line connects the harbour with the main village. Wangerooge has a population of 1000 people and can accomodate 7000 tourists. Cars are prohibited from Wangerooge so that visitors are not disturbed during their stay.
