The castle of Chambord is one of the most beautiful renaissance castles in the Loire valley. Construction of the castle began in 1519 under the reign of Francis I and was completed in 1547. Over the centuries the castle of Chambord was used as a retreat by French monarchs. The castle lies surrounded by a moat in a big park and has a total of 440 rooms.
