The city of Sharm el-Sheikh is a big tourist centre at the southern end of the Sinai peninsula. It lies at the southern end of a 50km long coastal area developed for tourism, next to the Ras Mohammed national park. Sharm el-Sheikh is a very new city, having developed after the 1980s. The city consists primarily of a long tourist zone with hotels, shops, restaurants, cafes and night clubs. The sea around Sharm el-Sheikh is impressive, consisting of crystal clear seawater with a rich marine life. Sharm el-Sheikh is a big diving centre, open all year due to its mild climate.
