The temple of the Egyptian goddess Hathor in Dendera was built during the Ptolemaic period in the first century BC. It is located in the city of Dendera not far away from Qena, in the upper Nile valley, about 90km north of Luxor. The temple compound extends over an area of 200m x 100m and comprises a number of structures. The main Hathor temple has a hall with many columns. On the Roman birth house there are bas-reliefs of the goddess Hathor breast-feeding a boy.
