Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province in eastern China, is a sub-provincial municipality and a nationally designated historical

and cultural city with a recorded history of more than 2600 years. Situated between Mount Tai to the south and the Yellow River to the north, it covers a total area of 10244 km² and serves as the political, economic, cultural, educational and transport hub of Shandong.
Widely known as the City of Springs, Jinan is home to more than 800 natural springs across ten spring groups, including the internationally renowned Baotu Spring, Black Tiger Spring, Five Dragon Pool and Pearl Spring. This unique karst hydrology makes it one of the world’s most spring-rich urban areas.
As a key transport node, Jinan lies on the Beijing–Shanghai high-speed railway corridor and operates 12 China–Europe freight train routes connecting 46 cities across 19 countries in Asia and Europe. It is also an industrial centre specialising in heavy-duty vehicles, machinery, iron and steel, and advanced manufacturing.
Home to Shandong University, founded in 1901, Jinan has a strong educational foundation and maintains sister-city relationships with 82 cities worldwide.
