Bordering the Central Business district to the northeast the Carlton gardens are a pleasant park with beutiful vegetation. They are home to the Royal Exhibition Building which was declared in 2004 a UNESCO World Heritage site, despite not being particularly impressive or significant. Also in the park is the ultramodern Melbourne Museum containing a number of art and science galleries.
